OVERVIEW

Lt. "Tiger" Shark was the skipper of the U.S. Navy vessel known as the Phantom Clipper.

HISTORY

Shortly after the entry of the US into World War II, a fully rigged clipper ship sailed into Norfolk harbor. Its captain, Seth Gamble, presented the ship to the Navy. Even though thinking that this ship would never meet the rigors of modern warfare, Lt. Commander Shark reluctantly accepted the ship. Given a tour by the captain, he was astonished to learn that the super-structure of this ancient ship was retrofitted with modern steel and a very powerful engine. Hidden cannons on the decks would take out any ship that threatened it. It also had a smoke screen system that gave the effect of it coming out of the mists of time, hence the "phantom" part of its name.
Manned by a crew of volunteers from around the world, the ship would be used for stealth missions and rescue missions through the early part of the War.
Its fate after 1943 is not known.
