HISTORY

Centuries ago, a fragment of the element from which the Green Lantern Corps took their power was lost in a great battle. Unbeknownst to the Guardians of the Corps, this fragment landed in Ancient China where the green metal was made into a lantern. By 1940, this lantern was brought to America and led to the debut of a new Green Lantern, Alan Scott, who was unaware of the Corps.

As the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, Abin Sur of Ungara was assigned by the Guardians of the Universe to search for this fragment. In the Earth year 1953, this search was interrupted by an energy flare in the Cordiani sector, from a planet in the Delta Vega system. This led Abin Sur into an adventure with Superman as they freed the planet from the occupying Grobex.

Abin Sur brought Superman back to Earth and was introduced to Alan Scott. While they found answers in each others' stories, the nature of their rings' differing weaknesses would not be solved for many years.
