HISTORY

Cliff Steele, the Doom Patrol's Robotman, briefly had a black robot body constructed by Dr. Will Magnus. While disconnected from Cliff's brain for a maintenance service, the body gained sentience (due to a "faulty responsometer"). High on life, the body intended to remain independent and attempted to destroy Cliff's brain. At that time, however, the Doom Patrol HQ was invaded by the Brain and Monsieur Mallah. Mistaking the sentient robot body for Cliff Steele, Mallah knocked it out and then transplanted the Brain's brain into it. However, the robot body, who never wanted to be subjected again, had triggered a self-destruction device that made him blow up. The Brain and Mallah were believed deceased in the explosion (but apparently survived and resurfaced years later).
