HISTORY

Doomsday was created on Krypton over 250,000 years ago to become the ultimate weapon against a threat foretold in prophecies across countless worlds. Engineered by the scientist known as Bertron the creature was subjected to a brutal process of forced evolution through cloning, death and rebirth. Each time it perished, it returned stronger, more resilient and immune to the method that had previously destroyed it. Before being killed by the creature himself, Bertron named the being The Ultimate.

Designed solely as a weapon, Doomsday rampaged across the cosmos for hundreds of thousands of years, moving from world to world and annihilating all life it encountered. Though killed repeatedly, each death accelerated its evolution, never to be defeated in the same way twice. Over time, this cycle reduced the creature to an embodiment of destruction.

Eventually, he arrived on Earth, rampaging across the United States and drawing the attention of the Justice League, who were defeated. During this devastation, the creature became known as Doomsday. He was ultimately confronted by Superman, and the battle ended in the deaths of both. He would not stay dead for long, and his history of destruction and rebirth continued. Through millions of years of deaths and resurrections, Doomsday came to understand himself as a constant within time and space, viewing himself as entropy incarnate.

At some point in his future, Doomsday would become known as the Time Trapper, and it would take the combined powers of the Legion of Infinite Worlds to kill him once more. Following that encounter, Doomsday appeared unable to evolve any further.

As the Time Trapper, Doomsday believed that another death might allow him to transcend his cycle entirely, to be reborn not as a destroyer, but as a true god capable of ruling eternity rather than erasing it. Arriving on Earth in the present era, at a moment when time itself was in flux, the Time Trapper confronted Superman, seeking to engineer the ultimate sacrifice once again to achieve the final stage of his own evolution.[1]

Rejected by Superman, the Time Trapper returned to the End of Time, where he was confronted and captured by the Legion of Darkseid of the Absolute Universe, who sought to learn more about Superman. Escaping into Hypertime, he joined forces with World Forger, and the two sought out the Justice League for help. They had learned that the universe was not only disconnected from the multiverse, but that Omega Energy had begun spreading across all eras of time. If left unchecked, Omega Energy would continue to spread, eroding the laws of reality itself.

Focus then shifted to Gorilla Grodd, a captive of the Justice League, whose body retained vestiges of Omega Energy. While the World Forger proposed extracting the energy directly, Grodd argued that properly understanding and containing it required his cooperation rather than his dissection. Claiming that his exposure had given him unique insight into its nature, Grodd persuaded the World Forger and the Time Trapper to accept his aid, and the three departed together.[2][3]
